WeGame Video Capture

June 23, 2009

Have you ever felt the desire to record when you play? Or have you ever had an amazing replay that you wanted to save and show all your friends? Or maybe you just wanted to watch clips of other people doing cool things in video games? If you’ve answered ‘yes’ to any of the previous, or even if you didn’t, then you’ll want to check out what they are doing at WeGame.com. It is basically FRAPS and you can easily record videos and screenshots on the fly while you’re gaming. Simply download the client, create and setup an account, and begin recording.

The process is so simple, once you’ve created the account you will set your settings on video quality and hotkey mapping for recording. Once you are in game you push the assigned hotkey and a little green box appears in the top left corner indicating it is working, as well as a sound. After you stop the recording then the files are automatically saved to your computer. From the client you can even decide to post your videos for everyone else to see.

This service works amazing and has really good video quality. Unfortunately for me I have yet to get sound to work, but this is not WeGame’s fault and actually hardware issues. So download this recording service, you’ll have so much fun recording yourself, and it also has many practical applications as well. This is one download you will not regret and why would you? After all, this is a free download. Hurry up and check it out, then tell me what you think about it in the comments!

Game Booster

June 23, 2009

Performance is everything in PC gaming. You should want every bit of your resources to be fully utilized to help your gaming experience. While you may not know it, many times there are applications installed that run in the background. You can’t see them but they are still there, sucking away at precious RAM and CPU. These applications are no big deal when browsing the Internet or doing other basic activities; but when playing intense next-gen games, every bit of RAM counts, so you don’t want these applications taking up this valuable real estate. That’s why you should download this program called Game Booster. Game Booster is basically an intense version of your Task Manager. Simply open the Game Booster and select the unnecessary applications you would like to temporarily halt, then push ‘Switch to Game Mode’ and they will be stopped, leaving that extra computing power to be used by your game. Simply go back into Game Booster and turn everything back on with just the click of one button. This program is extremely basic and extremely easy to use. If you’re having performance issues, or are looking for a little better frame rate, then this is an awesome program to download, and the best part is that it is completely free.

Angry German Kid Video

June 23, 2009

Now I know this video is just about as old as the internet, but this video is amazingly funny and is a fine example of game rage. This video was made as a response to some German politicians attempting to restrict access to violent video games. He was trying to show how they view gamers. Very amusing and intelligent. Too bad most people missed the point. Watch this video for a good laugh and see just what the extreme stereotype of a gamer is. Do you have game rage like this kid? What are your thoughts on this, let me know in the comments!

Oddball: Beautiful Katamari

June 23, 2009

This is going to be a new segment I like to call, Oddball. An article all about weird games, some fun, some perhaps not, but just something out of the ordinary and unexpected. Every once in a while there will be a game that just makes you wonder. These games are all very intriguing and hard to imagine that who ever created the game wasn’t actually hopped up on so many drugs that their eyes would fall out. Perhaps some of these games were created that way, I mean look at Mario for an example. He’s a plumber that travels inside of tubes to fight weird monsters and he gets power ups from mushrooms. No person with an unaltered state of mind could come up with that. So anyway, these will all be just some of the craziest and weirdest and most oddball games out there.

So for the first Oddball, there doesn’t seem like any game less deserving than Beautiful Katamari. The premise of the game is to roll around a little sticky ball that picks up everything it touches. The more you pick up the bigger the items you are able to pick up become. You might ask yourself, “well why should I pick these things up?’ and there is an excellent answer to that. It all started when the King was playing some tennis and he was so hardcore that he knocked the ball right into the sky and it created a big black hole. Yeah. A big black hole. It sucked up all the planets and now it is your job to help the King make new planets.

Despite sounding incredibly retarded, I actually found this game to be extremely fun and one that everyone has to play, no matter how retarded you think it sounds. The art and music are just as crazy as the plot, which makes the whole experience extremely fun. Each level advances to bigger and bigger objects and each requires you to pick up more of a certain type of object. This helps keep it interesting and there are so many items that it will be a new experience at each level. This game is a must play for anyone, and could be a great game for children as well. It is available for a very reasonable price of $20 at BestBuy.com.katamari1

That’s all for today’s Oddball game, if you have any suggestions for Oddball games or if you have any ideas for what you might like to see here on thriftygamers.com then send me an email at guncat@thriftygamers.com.
